Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 1, 2026
Draft pending legal review. This policy describes what the Swipea app actually does today, but it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It will be updated before or shortly after launch; the practices described here are already in force.
Swipea is a dating app. This policy explains what we collect, why we need it, who else touches it, how long we keep it, and how you get it deleted. If anything here is unclear, write to hola@swipea.app and we will answer.
Who we are
Swipea is operated from Uruguay by the team behind the Swipea app. Contact: hola@swipea.app.
You must be 18 or older
Swipea is only for adults. We ask for your date of birth during onboarding and refuse accounts under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor we remove it and delete its data. If you believe a minor is using Swipea, report the profile in the app or write to hola@swipea.app.
What we collect
Account data. Your email address and a hashed password, or — if you sign in with Apple or Google — the identity those providers confirm to us (their account identifier, your email and, on first sign-in, your name). We never receive your Apple or Google password. Optionally, a phone number, which we verify with a one-time code.
Profile data you choose to publish. Name, date of birth (we show your age, not the date), gender and pronouns, bio, city and country, height, job title, company, school, hometown, your interests, your answers to prompts, lifestyle answers (for example whether you smoke or want kids) and personality answers. Everything in your profile is visible to other users of the app, so publish only what you are comfortable sharing.
Photos and videos. The photos you add to your profile are public inside the app. Selfies you send for verification are different: they go to a private storage bucket, they are used only to check that you are a real, live person, they are never shown on your profile and never shown to other users.
Approximate location. With your permission, the app sends your coordinates so we can show you people nearby. We round them to about two decimal places (roughly a one-kilometre grid) before storing them, so we never keep your exact GPS position, and we never expose any coordinates through the app — other users only ever see a rounded distance and, if you filled it in, your city.
Messages and interactions. The messages you exchange with your matches, read receipts (which you can turn off), likes, passes, matches, dates you plan in the app, reports and blocks.
Device and usage data. Your device platform and name, the push notification token that lets us deliver notifications, when you were last active, and counters of how many times your profile was shown or viewed (used for the profile-insights feature).
Purchases. If you subscribe, the App Store processes the payment. We receive from our billing provider the fact that a subscription is active, its tier and its renewal state. We never see your card number.
Why we use it
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To show your profile to other people and show you theirs (the core of the service).
- To rank suggestions: our matching uses your interests, answers, preferences, approximate distance and how recently people were active.
- To deliver messages, matches and notifications.
- To keep Swipea safe: verification, content moderation, reports, blocks and fraud prevention.
- To provide the optional AI features you trigger yourself (bio suggestions and chat suggestions).
- To operate subscriptions and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your photos or messages to train our own advertising or profiling systems.
Who processes your data for us
We use a small number of providers, each doing one job:
- Supabase — hosts our database and file storage (profiles, messages, photos).
- Render — runs the Swipea servers.
- OpenAI — receives the specific content you send to an AI feature: the keywords or draft for a bio suggestion, the recent messages of a conversation when you ask for a chat suggestion, your verification selfie when you request verification, and text or images sent through automated content moderation. It is used to produce the result and is not used to build a profile of you.
- Expo — delivers push notifications to your device.
- RevenueCat — manages subscription state together with the App Store.
- Apple / Google — only if you choose to sign in with them.
- Google Places or Photon (OpenStreetMap) — when you search for a place while planning a date; we send the text you typed, not your identity.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account exists. When you delete your account we mark it deleted immediately, sign out every session, and remove it from discovery right away; the underlying records are then purged. Messages you sent remain visible to the person you sent them to, as in any messaging app. Reports, blocks and moderation records are kept longer — they exist to protect other people, and deleting them would let a banned user return by making a new account. Backups roll over on their own schedule.
Your rights
You can:
- Access and correct your data — everything in your profile is editable in the app.
- Delete your account — Settings → Delete account. This is permanent.
- Turn things off — read receipts, push notifications by category, and profile visibility (pause or incognito) are all settings in the app.
- Withdraw location permission — from your phone's system settings; distance-based features simply stop working.
- Ask us anything — write to hola@swipea.app and we will answer requests about your data.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to a copy of your data or to object to certain processing. Write to us and we will comply.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed with Argon2, never in clear. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Verification selfies live in a private bucket, not on the public media host. Access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service. No system is perfect, but we would rather store less data than defend more of it — which is why we round your location before it ever reaches our database.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
